Sonny Rollins gave "the bridge" already some pretty deep jazz connotation. Bridge says something about joining two opposite sides, spanning chasms and making once improbable crossings possible … difficult crossings easy. - - - Music itself is a bridge between individuals, generations, ideologies. Jazz is certainly a bridge between cultures and generations. Rhythm and melody have been used as a bridge between the physical world and spiritual world. Bach, Coltrane and The Shaman walk that bridge. - - - The form (structure) of a song is a bridge between us when we play. Improvisation walks, runs or drives over those bridges ... sometimes improvisation flies into the bridge from the side, bending it out of shape momentarily or making it swing back and forth. - - - The music makes a bridge of expression and emotion between the players and the listeners ... those qualities travel in both directions across the bridge. The Bridge Quartet, an exciting collective ensemble, brings four critically acclaimed musicians together. They are known for their adventurous, hard-swinging playing and inventive compositions.

| Alan Jones Sextet | Listen to our music | Top | ||||
| Led by extraordinary drummer/composer Alan
Jones, who built his own drums and plays barefoot, this sextet
has continually packed clubs wherever they have performed. While firmly
rooted in tradition, their music is so fresh and exciting that it has
managed to catch the attention of purists as well as a whole generation
of younger fans who usually ignore anything resembling mainstream jazz.
And where many other bands are content to rework the standards of previous
eras, the Alan Jones Sextet is not. The arrangements are unpredictable, the voicings unique, and the three-horn frontline uses a sophisticated harmony to explore the melodies of the leader's progressive post-bop compositions, setting the group well ahead of it's peers. Only rarely since the mid-sixties - when the new Miles Davis Quintet and a few others took jazz to its next level - has a group inspired such praise (see Reviews). Just attend one of their performances, and the faces of both the audience and the musicians themselves will tell you why. Once heard, they will leave you wanting only one thing: more. They are that good. |
